Discovery - enhancing digital accessibility and compliance for Farming Connect Wales

Farming Connect - Sheep Wales

The primary objective of this project was to assess and enhance the existing content and information architecture of their Welsh Government GEL 1.0 (Global Experience Language) based site, aligning it with the new GOV.WALES design standards.  This process encompassed a comprehensive content inventory and audit, an in-depth examination of the information architecture, and the creation of design mock-ups tailored to the GOV.WALES GEL templates and components.

Content audit

The initial phase of the discovery project involved conducting a content audit of Farming Connect Wales’s existing website. This is a detailed review of all content assets across the site to assess their relevance, accuracy, and alignment with the end user’s objectives. Through this process, we identified areas for improvement and opportunities to enhance the overall user experience and accessibility of the site, along with identifying any content and templates where bespoke work my be required to match up with the revised GOV.WALES GEL templates and components.

Information architecture audit and revision

Building upon the insights from the content audit, our team conducted an examination of the site's information architecture. This involved assessing the organisation and structure of content to ensure optimal navigation and usability for visitors. Based on our findings, we proposed revisions to the information architecture to streamline the user journey and facilitate easier access to key resources and information.

Design mock-ups in GOV.WALES GEL templates

With a clear understanding of the Farming Connect Wales content requirements and revised information architecture, we proceeded to develop design mock-ups aligned with the new GOV.WALES GEL standards. Using the latest templates and components, we created visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces that adhered to the principles of accessibility and consistency mandated by GOV.WALES guidelines.

  • Examined the information architecture to identify areas for improvement and streamline navigation.
